Social Development Director, Te Puni Kokiri

This speaker's paper is available here.

Lisa Davies (Ngati Wai) was the first Maori woman in New Zealand to graduate with a Masters degree in Demography. She began her career with the Ministry of Education Research Unit in 1990, before winning a position as Research Fellow at Waikato University's Population Studies Centre. There she established the Contract Research Unit, with a particular focus on education and employment research.

Since 1993 Lisa has played a key role in the development and management of Te Puni Kokiri's monitoring and evaluation function. Appointed manager of what was then the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, in 1995, she was promoted to manager of the expanded Monitoring and Evaluation Branch, in 1997.

Lisa was appointed this year as the Director of Social Development at Te Puni Kokiri. Lisa also represents Te Puni Kokiri on the Officials' Committee for Closing the Gaps (OGAP). Her involvement in policy and monitoring, and on OGAP, means she has both a leadership role in the Ministry and a close working relationship with many other Government agencies.
